Beachwater Drive Bathroom Renovation

A dated coastal family home was given a fresh new life through a carefully planned bathroom renovation. The project focused on transforming three key spaces - the main bathroom, ensuite, and separate toilet - into modern, functional areas that reflected the homeowner’s personal style.

Completed in just six weeks, the renovation demonstrates how thoughtful design and careful planning can dramatically change the feel of a home without requiring major structural changes.

Design Vision

The existing bathrooms felt dated and no longer aligned with the style of the rest of the home. The homeowner had a clear vision of the look and feel of these rooms - modern, slightly moody with a personal touch. The goal was to create spaces that felt calm and refined, rather than simply functioning as service areas.

A darker, more dramatic palette was introduced using deep green tones, grey tiles, and timber accents. Gunmetal tapware and oval LED mirrors were selected to complement the look while adding a modern, layered lighting effect.

The overall result was a bathroom aesthetic that felt both contemporary and personal.

Space Planning & Layout Improvements

Although no major structural alterations were required, careful space planning allowed the bathrooms to function far more effectively.

The original oversized spa bath was removed and replaced with a freestanding bath positioned in the same location. This simple change immediately modernised the room while creating a lighter, more open feel.

In addition, the shower was enlarged to create a more comfortable space, complete with a rain head and recessed niche for storage.

Finally, wall-hung timber-look vanities were introduced to visually open up the rooms and provide a cleaner, more contemporary look.

All of these changes kept the plumbing locations largely consistent which in turn helped maintain efficiency while still achieving a completely refreshed layout.

Interior Upgrades

The renovation focused on materials and finishes that would create a moody and modern atmosphere throughout the bathrooms.

Key upgrades included:

Tiled flooring in all three spaces
Tiled skirting and splashbacks behind vanities and baths
Freestanding bath in the main bathroom
Wall-hung timber vanities
Acrylic showers with rain heads and recessed niches

Challenges & Solutions

As with many renovations in older homes, several practical upgrades were required during construction.

The existing ventilation system had originally been vented into the ceiling space rather than externally. This was corrected to meet current building standards by installing new extract systems vented properly to the outside.

Additional work included updating aging plumbing, upgrading waterproofing systems and carefully working within the existing framing to maximise space.

The renovation involved careful coordination between multiple trades, including plumbing, waterproofing, tiling, electrical, cabinetry, and glazing specialists.

Through clear communication and planning, the project remained on schedule and was completed within the six-week timeframe.

Importantly, the project also stayed within the client’s expected budget range with no major unforeseen costs affecting the overall build.
